3 Places to Actually Reset When You're Burnt Out

When I worked in corporate, my calendar was back to back meetings from morning to night. Some days I couldn't finish my coffee, let alone make it to the bathroom. I called it being busy. Looking back, it was burnout.

Everyone tells you to take time off. Almost nobody tells you where to go, and planning a "relaxing" trip can turn into one more project on your plate. So here are three places I send clients (and love myself) when they need a real reset, plus how to pick the right one for you.

First, figure out what kind of reset you need

Before you pick a place, ask yourself two questions. How many days can I really take? And do I want to do absolutely nothing, or do I want to be outside and moving? Your answers will point you to one of these three pretty quickly.

1. Miraval Berkshires — Lenox, Massachusetts

Best for: anyone short on PTO who needs to unplug

Miraval is my go-to when someone tells me they need to unplug, fast. I'm a big Miraval fan. For years I've started January with a few days at Miraval Austin to recharge, and it's the best gift I give myself all year.

There are three resorts, so there's probably one within a short flight or drive of you, and I can book any of the three for you.

Miraval is all about slowing down. At the Berkshires, there are spaces set aside for digital mindfulness, like the Serenity Courtyard and the spa's Quiet Room, so putting your phone away feels normal, not like a challenge. No "quick" email check. No scrolling in bed. Just quiet days and time to think. If you're in Boston or New York, it's an easy drive, so you can skip the airport completely. A long weekend here will do more for you than a week somewhere you're still answering Slack messages. TRUST ME.

How long to stay: 3 to 4 nights

2. Turks & Caicos

Best for: warm water, slow beach days and zero hassle

If your idea of a reset is a beach chair, a good book and nothing on the schedule, Turks is hard to beat. There are direct flights from several major U.S. cities, so you can be on the sand the same day you leave home. When you're exhausted, easy logistics matter!

The hotel matters more than most people expect. The same island can feel completely different depending on where you stay. Some resorts are lively and social, others are quiet and private. This is where I come in. I match clients with the right property for their budget and how they like to travel.

How long to stay: 4 to 5 nights

3. Montage Big Sky, Montana

Best for: a full reset in the mountains

I spent five nights at Montage Big Sky last summer and came home feeling like a new person. It sits in the Spanish Peaks mountain range and manages to be rustic and elegant at the same time. Mountain air, huge open skies and nothing that reminds you of your inbox.

Most people fly into Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, about 50 miles from the resort. Summer is all about hiking and being outside. In winter, you're less than a two-minute walk from the Lewis & Clark Chairlift at Big Sky Resort.

How long to stay: 4 to 5 nights, since the travel day takes some time

Quick comparison

Best for Getting there Ideal stay
Miraval (Arizona, Austin or Berkshires) Short on PTO, need to unplug A short drive or flight for most of the U.S. 3 to 4 nights
Turks & Caicos Beach and doing nothing Direct flights from several major U.S. cities 4 to 5 nights
Montage Big Sky Mountains and fresh air Fly into Bozeman 4 to 5 nights

Why book through me

When you book a hotel through me, you pay the same rate you'd pay booking it yourself. Because of my hotel relationships, you can also get extras like room upgrades when available, daily breakfast and resort credits, and you still earn your loyalty points. And if anything goes wrong, you have a real person in your corner to fix it, not a chatbot.

You're allowed to take the break

Even in a busy season, even when there's no "good time" to step away, you're allowed to give yourself this. Burnout doesn't wait for a good time, so your reset doesn't have to either.

Ready to plan yours? Book a 30-minute call with me here or email me at Virginia@travelwithvirginia.com. Tell me how many days you have and I'll help you pick the right spot.
